The Wednesday Walkers visited us a couple of weeks ago, right before we lost all of our beautiful leaves.  After we gathered at Rose's Deli for lunch, which is the high spot of Wednesday group.  Next time we gather for a walk I hope we can make arrangements for lunch at Hunter's Ridge, another nice spot in Sherwood.  If you can't make the walks or you can't do a 10k, usually someone will do a shortened version and at least come for the food and conversation.

PARRETT MOUNTAIN 11/17/2008

I apologize for not getting these pictures up sooner, but I'm still having some issues how to navigate this site.  But it was a beautiful walk and Sharon did a wonderful job.  She has already sanctioned Parrett Mountain for next year and said it will be a new walk with even different angles so we can just hope that it will be another wonderful day.  And for those of you that missed the lunch, the pork sandwhiches were great!  Thanks to Sharon for all of her work for making this one of the merr

Happy Valley’s Hills & Hollows Walk, Sat., October 25:

It was a gorgeous morning for a brisk walk through parks and greenways, on boardwalks through wetlands, along Scott Creek natural area, and through some neighborhoods with fabulous views. When we finished the walk, there was hot apple cider and samples of apples to try. It was such a great walk, it didn’t feel like a 3+!

Trick or Treat Trek at Remlinger Farm, Sunday, October 26:

Another gorgeous and brisk morning walk, this time in Carnation, Washington. We started at the farm which was geared up for a huge Halloween extravaganza with pony rides, corn maze, and all kinds of family fun. Most of the walk was along the Tolt River and Snoqualmie Valley River Trail, and the huge big leaf maples and other (unidentified) trees were brilliantly colored. It’s a definite "repeater" if done again next year. Thank you Emerald City Wanderers!

Adopt-A-Road 09/22/2008

Joyce, Dana and Carolyn finishing up on Edy Road.  We do a clean-up quarterly and we meet in front of the police station in Sherwood.  If you would like to join us, subscribe to our e-mail list and we can keep you informed of our next dates.

By the way...our Parrett Mountain walk is this weekend.  Please contact Sharon at trailmaster@sherwoodmerrywalkers.org if you would like to volunteer.  For those interested in walking, the weather looks like it will be clear, so bring your cameras and enjoy the views.  The Foundation that is located on the site will be offering lunch for a reasonable price.  So come and get some exercise and enjoy a picnic.

Note from Carolyn:
Hey! This is soooo easy with the "trash grabbers" Walgreen's donated to the club, you don't have to even bend or stoop to get those tiny cigarette butts! It takes not even an hour to make our route absolutely -nearly butt-free. Then we get to fall into the coffee shop and bask in our virtue.

Last night was our first Merrywalkers picnic.  We had four walkers on the walk before the picnic and then every one met back at Jane's house for ham and a potluck.  With peaches be fresh, we had 2 peach cobblers and 1 peach pie.  The ham was really good and we  had everything from beans, jello molds, fresh fruit, potato salad and more stuff than you could eat.  And .... thee was the famous Margaret Forster pies, one banana and the other chocolate.  For all of you that missed it, maybe next time.  Enjoy the pictures.

Under the EVENTS tab you will find two articles that were printed in the Newberg Paper regarding our upcoming event.  Check it out!

Everyone is invited to our End-of-Summer Picnic at 7:30 p.m. this Friday, Sept. 12, at Jane Leider's home. The club will provide ham and rolls.  Members are asked to bring a dish to pass or a beverage to share.  Lemonade and water will be available.  Come at 6:30 for a one-hour walk that includes a hill, but its not too steep.  There is also a shorter walk to some blackberry bushes that are ready for harvesting, so bring a container if you want some blackberries. If you don't want to walk, come at 6:30 anyway for some pre-party conversation or to help set up.

The address is 20794 SW Settlement Dr., off of Edy Road.  Contact Jane if you need directions or more information:  503-625-8986 or 503-805-5912.

Your spouses, children, and prospective walker-friends are also invited. The more the merrier!
