Awards

The Sherwood Merrywalkers are the proud recipients of the following awards:

2005 Oregon Flame Award for Club Excellence. The Oregon Flame Award was created to recognize Oregon Volkssporters who are examples of excellence for others to see and emulate.  The award was created in 1996 and presented in four categories: Individual Excellence, Club Excellence, Inspiration and Enthusiasm.

2003 AVA Publicity Award - Community Relations Program. The Merrywalkers received the GOLD AWARD for our work with Raindrops to Refuge (R2R).  R2R is a community watershed stewardship group with a mission to "inspire, educate, and facilitate community actions to assess, restore and preserve the ecological health of Sherwood's three watersheds."  R2R and the Merrywalkers partnered together to create Greenway Walks for citizens to learn about the natural areas and watersheds of Sherwood, restoration projects, native plants, local birds, and ecology.  For more information on R2R, please visit www.raindrops2refuge.org.

2003 AVA Certificate of Service Award - NW Region. the former Renette Meltebeke, who was our first president, received this award.  As stated during the presentation "Renette was the driving force behind the Sherwood Merrywalkers.  The club was inactive and she brought it back from extinction.  It is again a viable club working within the guidelines that should keep it operating."  Renette passed away in 2007.

2003 Oregon Flame Award. The Merrywalkers were nominated by OTSVA for Club Excellence and were presented with a trophy at the state meeting held in July.
