I just received this from one of our Merrywalkers, Vicky.

"Jane, I just got a call from Margaret.  Ford passed away at 10:20 am this morning.  He was ready to go, she said, he was in a lot of pain.
She is doing reasonably well, and said her family was there with her.   I am so glad we saw him when we did, it was a special time.
Vicky"

Ford sure loved volkssporting!. He and Margaret mentored our club to get it back up and running out of its earlier retirement. I was often amazed at their willingness to drive over to our meetings at the Sherwood Y from Dayton even on dark, rainy nights. And, they always helped at the walk events. I hope we will continue to have Margaret!

I’d like to add a comment about Ford.

I met Ford about ten years ago, when I was thinking about running for AVA office. I was impressed by Ford’s enthusiasm and his ability to focus on the heart of a problem without getting involved in personalities or distractions. Ford looked me in the eyes and said, “Curt, you must run for higher office because you have much to give to volkssport”. When I lost my first election, Ford encouraged me to try again, and I did. His love of volkssport, and of life in general, was infectious. It was always comfortable to be around Ford. He will be missed.

A big part of the joy of volkssporting is meeting and being friends with people like Ford and Margaret. They were seemingly tireless volunteers for their club and the state organization. I loved walking with them and volunteering with them. I am better for having met them.
