Buddy the dog
We didn't get to Gresham till after 10:15 and by the time we got started it was close to 10:30. But, we weren't alone. We met Buddy, and is he not the cutest dog? We walked with Larry and Rita and finally met up with the others at Borcelli's. Wow, did they have great Italian food and it happened to be right across the street from the infamous M&M bar. Boy the things you run across when you just go for a walk!

You can begin to see spring coming out at the Refuge. We saw a hawk just soaring in the sky over the big pond for about 4 minutes, chipmunks, squirrels, frog eggs, trillium and all the other spring flowers.

A group of us got together on Sunday and we drove down to Angela's hotel and then hopped on the Max to the Saturday/Sunday Market and walk under the cherry blossoms. After an hour or so of shopping and checking out the Japanese sculptures and trees, we headed home for our Oscar Party at Mary Ann's house. Out of all of the movies we saw in the past few weeks, the one we didn't see, won! But it was fun trying to get all of them in before the party.

While Angela and I were out scouting for new places for the Easter Egg Hunt, our Roving Photographer, Starr, was out covering the Worker's Walk in Vancouver. It's so great to have all of our members taking such an active role for our club! In fact, Angela has joined our club and I'm sure she will be a great addition as one of our tour guides. It just keeps getting better and better, doesn't it?

The day started out at the Refuge with a bluebird sighting right in the beginning. The owl is still napping in his same spot and before we left, we spotted a huge heron landing in the water. We welcomed a new member, Sally, to our group and then we headed over for coffee.
Last night, 25 of our members were at the meeting to hear Dr. Rachael, who's specialty is ER, talk to us about injuries, vitamins and good mental health. She was great and everyone had a million questions. She was surprised to see how many walkers we have that are in their 70s. She was a great speaker.

Lunch at Lili's is always wonderful, especially when you can sit and share bread with 10 club members. The walk was gorgeous. Ed planned this walk beautifully. We saw houses and gardens we could only drool at. Kathy was able to take a tour of her childhood home. A lot of is were able to find some "Real Deals." It was a great way to celebrate spring. Thanks to all of you who made another day a special one.

Yesterday the Merrywalkers headed up to walk in McMinnville. The walk started right off with a deer sighting and then it just got better. We went through the parks and beautiful neighborhoods. By the time we got to the last park, everyone was peeling their coats and sweatshirts off, it was so warm. After Sandra, Mike, Janet and I headed over to the Sage Restaurant for the best broccoli soup I think I've ever had. We also talked about getting together a nice Saturday starting later in the afternoon, so we can take in the art and the wine tasting. I think that idea sounds good good, we might just have it be a "Saturday Group Walk".

<![CDATA[More news on Ford ]]>Wed, 24 Feb 2010 18:56:25 -0800http://www.sherwoodmerrywalkers.org/1/post/2010/02/more-news-on-ford.html
For those of you who knew him, Ford Forster passed away this morning. You may send cards to Margaret Forster at 5720 NE Duniway Rd, Dayton, OR 97114-7014. Arrangements have not yet been made. As news is made available, I will keep you informed.

For those of you who did not know Ford, he was a long time member (maybe the founder) of the Mac Trackers of McMinnville, Oregon. He served four years as the Oregon Trail State Volkssport Assn president. He served numerous times on various committees to make volkssporting better. I think he achieved that. I'm not certain of his age, but believe he was in his mid to late 80s. One of my best memories of him was when he walked 30 km with me at the Discovery Walk Festival a few years back. His mind was a keen one, and he managed to focus immediately on the heart of problems.

Ford Forster will be missed by volkssporters everywhere, and especially by those who knew him.
