The 5k walkers had a great walk as well, some of us skipped that big hill, but we loved walking in the downtown section of West Linn. We stopped at the Bullseye Coffee Shop for sandwiches, soup and coffee (a perfect day for all three!). They also serve special pastries made by Auntie Peacock! and the town was so cute, we had to go back and do our thing by shopping. We met Sandy (10k walker) doing the same as us. We did talk to the lady from the Chamber and she said if we wanted to do a walk there again (which would be great) you could e-mail her and she could work out a little discount for the walkers at several of the stores. She did mention two art fairs, one in August and the other in September, and then there's always their Wednesday evening Farmer's Market. Like Starr said, we also enjoyed the walk and the food and shopping were a great addition. And I'm not sure what the count was, but we had a 10k leader and and 10k backup, to make sure we didn't leave anyone in the dust and then there was the slow and faster 5k.
Icles hanging from the sighs...you know it's got to be cold outside. What a nice turn out for the walk. We seen a Goose and couldn't decide if it was real or not...then it moved...LOL! It was a real one! River was flowing fast & strong. So many animals to greet us on this walk along with some gorgeous houses. Thank you for a really nice walk through another of our neighborhood communities.--Starr The 5k walkers had a great walk as well, some of us skipped that big hill, but we loved walking in the downtown section of West Linn. His service will be Sunday afternoon. If you would like more details, contact Regina. We had a really nice walk today. Lots of people showed up. The weather was great and didn't start the snow, rain & sleet until the walk was finished. A lot of us enjoyed a good meal at the Olive Garden. --Starr The National Executive Council (NEC), in a closed session on Friday Feb 18, exercised its right in accordance with the AVA Bylaws .to approve the hiring of the Executive Director. By a majority vote, the hiring was disapproved. As a result of the vote, the President and Vice President resigned. As this situation was not covered by the Bylaws, the remaining members elected Dennis Michele, SE Regional Director as interim president until new elections were held at the upcoming convention. Marvin Stokes, treasurer, was elected interim Vice President, Both men, as required by the Bylaws, resigned from their previous respective positions on the NEC. Annette Tollett was elected to fill the vacant treasurers position. These actions were necessary to complete the NEC meeting and the business before it which had to be accomplished. From a personal stand point, it is regrettable that these matters had to be done, but it was necessary to keep the NEC and the AVA operating. I take no great pleasure in bring interim President and will not seek election to this position at the upcoming elections at the convention Dennis Michele Interim President AVA It was cold, but nice and sunny out there. Sixteen showed up today, including Charlene (a first-timer) anThe ducks looked like they were having a grand time in that cold pond. We did see a rather large baby eagle out there. I tried to take a picture, but I'm not sure if you can see it. Because it didn't have the white head, I thought it was a big hawk, but Mary Ann hung in there with a baby eagle. She was right, but see what you think. Well, we got a bit of a late start because I didn't realize that the Visitor's Center didn't open till 10 a.m., but I won't forget that again. There were 9 walkers on the 5k and 16 on the 10k, so not a bad turnout for a Saturday morning when you could be working in the yard. We had a lot of Merrywalkers that showed up for the walk, in fact elmer even brought his wife to the walk today and we had 2 new walkers that showed up as well, but I didn't get their names. After we went to the Curry House for a nice lunch. Starr led the 10k and wrote a blog, but before I do that we want to give Sandy Reid a big thank you for designing the walk and having the directions perfect. Joe said we should call you the "Czarina" because you are doing such a great job. One of these days we have to do Hedges Creek. Starr's blog:What a nice surprise the weather provided for us today. Sixteen walkers did the 10K through the beautiful neighborhood of Charbonneau with the sun shinning the whole time. Ore senses were awakened with flower's, our eyes were delighted with fountains, ponds, ducks, geese & nutria...what a treat. All in all it was a wonderful walk in and through some beautiful homes and a golf course too! This is a walk that would be fun to do in the summer when all the trees are leafed out...thanks to all the walkers who showed up for this springtime gem. Going from none to two! Soon there will be two coffee shops in Sherwood. Symposium Coffee, which will go into the old house on Pine St. offering Stumptown Coffee. Black Bird Coffee will be going into the old coffee shop offering a large array of teas along with their coffee. Both will have organic pastries and Black Bird will offer some gluten-free. Heather and Salem Sharfeddin are the new owners of Black Bird, so maybe we can even have a peak at an "author at work". Heather is one of our local authors. She has a web site, so you might just want to pick up one of her books before sitting down for a cup of coffee. http://sharfeddin.com/ Wow, I guess we will have to take turns going from one shop to the next on Monday Snails. |
