Today turned out to be a typical day in May. The sun hide behind the clouds and we had a mostly showers and a few sun breaks for our walk. Dick and Barbara Baker were back from their Florida trip with lots of interesting stories! Nice to have them back! We found out right at the start that it was Bob's birthday so after a happy birthday wish and group photo we were on our way! We enjoyed the fountains, wild life and paths through and around Red Sunset Park. The neighborhoods had lovely manicured lawns and flowers bursting with color. Dick lead the 10K and Joe lead the 5K group, not an easy task ... keeping us all together and not loosing any. We owe a special "Thanks" for these men and all the time they give us!!! The Wednesday walking group received a special treat this year as the Camas Lilies were in bloom along with pink Corn Salad flower's. The wild flower's were spectacular and added spots of color to brighten the trail. Jan led the 10K group through the Camas Lily fields, across Woodburn and Lacamas Creeks, where bridges kept our feet dry. We got a good view of Pothole Falls and finished our walk along Round Lake. Joe lead the 5k group and by the smiles on their faces they also had a wonderful time. Mike Lama supplies us with the first 5 pictures, on the slide show, of the Lilies & 5K group... Thank You Mike! Always a special thank you to Jan and Joe today for leading us on a beautiful walk through the forest and nature. If you enjoy nature, wildlife and scenery that will take your breath away this walk has it all! What a spectacular way to start the month of May! The weather was a little cool at the start but the sun was out and the sky was a vivid blue. There were about 36 walkers who showed up to take advantage of the beautiful weather and this special walk. This is an amazing walk that has something for everyone. The route goes through Reed College campus, downtown Sellwood with antique and specialty shops, beautiful residential areas then the added delight of the "free-on Wed.", Crystal Springs Rhododendron Gardens. The gardens just happen to be in full bloom and the color and fragrance with the water and fountain as a background are magnificent this time of year! Ed led the 10K group, filling in for Dick, and Joe led the 5K walkers... A very special "Thank You" to both these men for being our guides. Jan B. & Pat G. also helped keep us on course, and extra help is always appreciated! We all just follow whoever is in the lead! LOL! An added bonus to this walk for me was to get to cross paths with all the 5k walkers in the gardens. It was really great to see everyone from all the different AVA clubs supporting each other and enjoying this great "MAY DAY" !!! The Wednesday group walk was hosted by the Cedar Milers club today and what a day for an outing! Suppose to be the warmest day of the year. That brought out short sleeves, shorts and smiles! This saunter was through beautiful neighborhoods and an excursion around Summerlake Park. We walked on secluded pathways, by the lake, over bridges and viewed wildlife. The spring season brought out all the colors of the rainbow, without the rain! The sky was blue, the flower's were in full bloom the neighborhood was such a treat from the busy city streets. A special "Thank You" to Dar who lead the 10K group and Mary~Ann from the Sherwood Merrywalkers who lead the 5k walkers. This a wonderful YRE that could be enjoyed over and over!!! Here comes Spring! The sun was shinning, the sky was blue and the Wednesday walkers started arriving. There were smiles, conversations and happy walkers all over the small Starbucks at Garrison Square, our start point. This was a lovely walk through neighborhoods that were alive with color and nature. There were two groups of walkers, the 10 K lead by Dick Baker and the 5k lead by Barbra Baker... a very special "Thank You" to these wonderful fellow Volkssporters who give us so much of their time, energy and kindness. The two group photo's were also took by Dick...nice job! And the last picture on the slide show....What a beautiful reminder of how spectacular the day was for us! It was a very special day and it just doesn't get any better... please join us and experience the fun, friendship and fitness that these YRE's provide. |
